Description
God longs to be in intimate relationship with people, including children. The relationship of a shepherd with his sheep is unique, personal and tender. This is how God desires to relate to us. He longs to show compassion, give what is best, guide, and protect.
Children naturally depend on others. Their hearts quickly respond with love and attachment towards those who care for them and love them well. What better time of life to help them establish this same love and affection for God, their good shepherd, than while they are still young?
The daily and weekly activities in this devotional are designed to help children interact personally with God and learn to follow their good shepherd.
God is My Shepherd! teaches children to follow their good shepherd as they:
- Are assured of God’s constant presence
- See God as their protector, provider, and guide
- Imagine God as their good shepherd
- Trust God with their heart
- Rest in God’s tender care
This 4-week devotional includes daily activities to engage the child in the content and a final activity to help the child engage personally with God.
Bonus Leader’s Guide also available! This guide prepares you for a 10-15-minute weekly conversation with the child. The emphasis is to provide support and encouragement as the child pursues a personal relationship with God. Each weekly guide includes prompts for:
- Understanding the Content
- Asking a Question
- Telling a Personal Story
- Praying Over the Child

This excellent devotional will help your child understand how God can truly be our shepherd in all areas of life. Parent and child can meditate and memorize Psalm 23 as they learn through drawing, visualizing truths and other activities. After the four weeks, my daughters felt closer to the Lord and had a better understanding of how God is their shepherd.

I was looking for a devotional for my son who is 8. This devotional was excellent. It was age appropriate, interesting and something my son enjoyed doing with me. I appreciated how focused on truth it was, yet in a form children can understand.

I have served in full-time children’s ministry for 13 years and this is by far the best devotional book I have ever seen for this age group!
It was black and white and my 8 year old son wanted more color so I gave him stickers and let him used colored writing utensils to jazz it up a bit–problem solved! Dont let the black and white pages hinder you from encouraging your kid to dive in.
This devotional goes much deeper than most and uses creative activities and carefully worded text to not just explain Scripture, but also help children discover how it applies to their own lives.
Don’t just have your child go through it, join them on the journey! Even if you’re very familiar with the topic like I was you will likely be challenged and blessed as you look at the Scripture passage in a very personal and yet simple way. I even got some ideas for how to explain important Bible truths to my Sunday School class!
I would highly recommend this devotional book!

This Good Shepherd devotional is awesome! The way each lesson engaged my 8 year old daughter made it fun for her, and drew out some deep spiritual discussions. She enjoyed drawing out pictures and doing the various activities in the book.
The lessons were spiritually strong, yet very age appropriate, with some good practical activities that helped her apply what she was learning. I liked that the questions they asked wasn’t just yes or no questions, but ones that helped her articulate what was in her heart.
I also loved how simple and short they were to do each morning.
I would definitely recommend it, and am excited about going through the next ones.
It would also be very easy to use with multiple children, if each child had their own book.
