I’ve loved this Psalm for a while now. It’s been a solace and refuge over the years. But not until recently have I seen it as a Psalm that is filled with grace. You won’t actually find the word “grace” anywhere in it, but its fingerprints are everywhere. I think the reason I see grace […]
1 Word | 1 Year
I have a love/hate relationship with New Year’s resolutions. Do you? There is value to goals and resolutions but they can easily become taskmasters or lead to self-reliance.
2017 was my first year to choose a word to focus on during the year. One word for one year.
It was freeing. And yet challenging. It shaped my heart, my life, my home. It served as an underlying rhythm to my year. I didn’t think about it every day. Yet it was a constant companion, a lense through which I viewed life and made choices (even at times unconsciously).
I loved it and now it’s a regular rhythm of my year! Want to give it a try?
In this set of posts you’ll find practical tips to get started, an overview of the benefits, as well as meaningful takeaways from my various words each year. The FREE Resource Library also has a downloadable template to help you navigate your word for the year. Enjoy!
4 Grace Quotes for Unpredictable Times
My heart and mind have mirrored the weather of our early spring this year. Cloudy rain and wind for days on end have led to delightful sun as well as surprise snows. When unpredictability reigns, the assurance that steadies is that things will eventually fall back into a familiar rhythm. In the meantime, grace is […]
When Grace Makes Me Furious (and what it says about my heart)
This week I engaged in multiple theologically deep conversations with my 3 three-year-old. Which, if you’ve never done it, is one of the most mentally taxing things you can do. Ever. One conversation began with this question, “Momma, will there be bad guys in heaven?” Ummmmmmm. “Well, it depends on what you mean by bad […]

My Word for 2018
Grace is a word I’ve heard a lot. I grew up in the church. Memorized verses in AWANA that talked about grace. Have used it in conversations. But this year I’m beginning to think that my understanding of the word is a somewhat superficial understanding. I’m not sure that I really know how to live […]
Say No to New Year’s Resolutions & Yes to One Word for One Year
A few weeks ago, I wrote about my love/hate relationship with New Year’s resolutions. (You can read it here if you haven’t already.) There is value to goals and resolutions but they can easily become taskmasters or lead to self-reliance. If you love them and find they lead you to God to bring about needed […]
My Word for 2017
Delight means to experience joy, take pleasure in or find satisfaction in Some of its synonyms are relish enjoy savor I didn’t have any great epiphanies when I first looked up those definitions and synonyms. But when I started substituting them for the word delight in Scripture? Wow! For example, think about this verse you’ve […]
Why I Chose One Word for One Year in 2017
I have a love/hate relationship with New Year’s resolutions. I love setting goals and making plans to achieve them. I hate when real life happens and they disappear into nothing. I think I’m more in love with the allure of fresh beginnings and the IDEA of what change could bring than I am anything else. […]
