God is Faithful. Not Predictable.
God spoke this truth to my heart over 10 years ago. I needed it then. And I still desperately need it today.
Several months ago, I wrote a devotional for a teen magazine on this topic and it gets published online today.
Today finds me in the midst of circumstances that I never imagined even a month ago. Circumstances that even today, and especially looking ahead into the future, are indeed quite unpredictable.
It’s no surprise that what I wrote months ago, God intended to remind me of this very day.
Because He saw this day coming even if I didn’t.
He knew I would need to be reminded to rest in His faithfulness.
I am so thankful for this faithful God who holds my hand this day and every day throughout this unpredictable journey of life.
I hope you’ll take a minute to reflect on God’s faithfulness even in the midst of life’s unpredictability.
Psalm 19:1 “How clearly the sky reveals God’s glory! How plainly it shows what he has done!” (GNT)
Faithful, But Not Predictable
I love watching sunsets. They always cause my soul to sing and quiet my troubled heart. I have never been disappointed by a sunset – well, maybe one.
After a long week and a very long day, I took a few minutes to slip outside and to relish in God’s handiwork. I was anticipating a brilliant display of color that would take my breath away. Instead, the clouds simply swallowed up the sun. My heart sank.
As I tried to rationalize away the disappointment, I heard God’s whisper, “I am faithful but not predictable.” My heart skipped a beat. “Every night the sun will go down. You can’t predict the colors or the brilliance, but you can trust that it will happen. And you can trust me with your life, even when it is unpredictable.”
CARVE OUT TIME: For several days, sit and watch the sunset. Compare the differences in color, brilliance, and visibility. Give thanks that the sun rises and sets each day, even if its beauty is hidden from view.
CONSIDER: What appears unpredictable in your life right now? Trust that God is at work even when you can’t see it. You can count on God’s faithfulness!
(Originally published on Devozine, an online and print magazine designed for teens. Each week’s devotions are based on a theme and are designed to lead the reader into intimacy with God. I love its unique format and open-ended questions that draw the reader into conversation with God. Maybe you know a teen that would enjoy it too!)
